Karambaba Hill (87m) [P-32]
Summited On: February 16, 2025
Region: Chalcis, Euboea, Central Greece, Greece.
Overview
Karambaba Hill (87m) [P-30] is the main hill of the city of Chalkis on Euripus Straight of Euboea, and features its only remaining fortification. The castle is a small look to the now erased glorious past of the trade port which featured extensive city-wide walls and a plethora of public works. We were lured in with the easy access and after many weekends of skiing decided to welcome an early spring by eating seafood in Chalkis after our Valentine’s walk. But our day of course started at the train station, near the quiet waters of the inner bay, and in the shadow of Karambaba.

Morning view from Karambaba Hill (87m)
Our goal was to leisurely ascend the hill from the E side after getting a coffee and enjoying the view - we did not know or expect it to contain a museum. In either case I think we were both happy to have a full day walking around together.
Route
Our route to Karambaba Hill (87m) begun right out of the train whereas we stayed on the “continental” side of town, before turning left towards a small coffee shop on the foot of the hill. We continued for a few minutes on tarmac, up a rather steep road. At the top of the built area there is a small parking lot with several cat who demanded our attention. We were however soon on the way again.
At this point the route ascends the literal — and well maintained —
